MACL introduces mandatory registration for vessels using Velana Airport jetty

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has introduced a mandatory registration system for vessels seeking access to the jetty and lagoon area at Velana International Airport, with the new requirement taking effect today.
In a statement, MACL said vessels operating at the airport must now obtain prior permission before approaching the jetty or using the lagoon area. A dedicated online platform, known as the "Harbour Portal," has been launched to facilitate the process.
The company said the portal was introduced to improve service standards by registering vessels that use the harbour, maintaining records of vessel movements and simplifying the monitoring of operational activities.
MACL said the portal will be rolled out in phases. The initial phase will focus on vessel registration and raising awareness among vessel owners and operators on how to use the system. The company added that it will also work directly with operators during the registration period to assist with the onboarding process.
Vessel owners and operators will be given a one-month registration period on the Harbour Portal. Once the registration period ends and the portal becomes fully operational, users will be required to submit requests for permission before accessing the airport's lagoon area or using related harbour services.
