Nearly 295,000 eligible to vote in upcoming local council and WDC elections

A total of 294,876 people are eligible to vote in the upcoming Local Council elections, Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections and the public referendum, according to the Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM).
The commission said the figure was confirmed in the final voter registry published ahead of the elections scheduled for 4 April. The final list shows 61 fewer voters than the provisional list released earlier, following revisions made after complaints submitted to the commission.
According to the final registry, 150,370 men and 144,506 women are eligible to vote in the elections.
The Elections Commission of Maldives has also decided to place 588 ballot boxes across the country for the elections. Of these, 180 ballot boxes will be placed in Malé, 51 in Hulhumalé, nine in Vilimalé, and 322 across the atolls. In addition, 21 ballot boxes will be placed in resorts, while five ballot boxes will be located in prisons.
ECM has urged all eligible voters to verify their voting information and ballot box locations. Voters can check their details by sending a text message to 1414 with VR (space) followed by their ID card number.
