Fenaka Corporation has commenced work to install an additional 1.2-megawatt power generator in Fuvahmulah City to meet the anticipated increase in electricity demand during the holy month of Ramadan.
Speaking to state media, Fenaka confirmed that construction is currently underway to prepare the site for the new engine, with the installation scheduled for completion before Ramadan begins. The corporation stated that electricity demand in Fuvahmulah is projected to reach around 6.5 megawatts during the month, while the current operational capacity stands at 6 megawatts.
Fenaka is presently providing electricity in Fuvahmulah using nine generators, with a combined installed capacity of 8 megawatts. The additional generator will help ensure reliable supply during the period of heightened consumption, particularly in the evenings when household usage typically peaks.
Fuvahmulah City, a growing urban centre, continues to attract tourists as well as Maldivians relocating from other parts of the country. The city currently has 4,036 households and a population exceeding 13,000.
