Man rescued after boat capsizes in Shaviyani Atoll

A 68-year-old man was rescued from the sea on Tuesday after the vessel he was travelling in capsized while en route between two islands in Shaviyani Atoll.
The Maldives Police Service said it received a report of the incident at approximately 11:50 a.m. The small boat was travelling from Funadhoo to Feevah when it encountered difficulties at sea.
Police officers responded immediately and deployed a speedboat to the area. The man was located in the water near Feevah and safely rescued by responding officers.
According to police, the individual, who is originally from Noomaraa, was travelling alone at the time of the incident. He was transferred to the police speedboat and taken to Feevah, where authorities confirmed he was unharmed and in stable condition.
Preliminary findings indicate that the vessel began taking in water from the stern before eventually capsizing.
Police have advised seafarers operating in the area to exercise caution, as debris from the capsized boat is reported to be drifting in nearby waters.
