The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that the newly developed asphalt section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu will open to the public on Monday, with final works now underway. Phase 1 of the project, covering 838 metres across five segments, is nearing completion, and MTCC confirmed that 140 metres of asphalt were laid yesterday.
According to MTCC’s Senior Project Manager, installation of traffic signboards and road markings will be completed by tomorrow to ensure the road is ready for reopening. The project, valued at MVR 144 million, will expand Boduthakurufaanu Magu into a four-lane road to help ease long-standing traffic congestion in Malé.
Phase 2 of the development, which spans a 250-metre section from the local market to the North Harbour, is scheduled to begin next week. This stage includes wall renovations and upgrades to utility networks undertaken by STELCO and the Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).
