MTCC Confirms Second Phase of Malé Northside Road Project on Track for Pre-Ramadan Completion

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has assured that works under the second phase of the Malé Northside Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project will be completed before the start of Ramadan.
MTCC stated that development in the local market road area is progressing according to schedule. The project began on 9 December 2025 and is advancing rapidly, with 76 per cent of Segment Two now complete.
Current activities include quay wall construction, concrete works, panel installation and jetty construction. The remaining tasks involve installing 40-metre panels and anchors. Once structural works are finished, preparations for asphalt laying will commence, including the installation of drainage systems and sidewalks.
MTCC acknowledged that the schedule is tight with Ramadan approaching but expressed strong confidence that the works will be finalised and the road opened to the public before the holy month begins.
Under the project, a 250-metre stretch of road from the local market area to North Harbour is being developed, with the carriageway widened to six metres. In total, 1,088 metres of roadway will be upgraded, extending from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to North Harbour.
The first phase of the project, covering 140 metres, has already been completed. Upon full completion, the initiative is expected to modernise roads in the market area, enhance pedestrian safety, improve stormwater management to reduce flooding, and alleviate congestion in the commercial harbour zone, facilitating smoother transportation of goods within Malé City.
