Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, announced that the proposed state budget for 2026 will be presented in Parliament Tomorrow during morning session.
Finance Minister Moosa Zameer confirmed that preparations are ongoing to submit the budget before the end of the month, in accordance with the law requiring the budget for the upcoming year to be laid before Parliament at least two months ahead of the year-end.
Minister Zameer noted the budget will be based on projected revenues for the Maldives and highlighted that some projects will be financed through contractor funding rather than relying solely on supplier credit, grants, multilateral loans or foreign aid.
This year’s budget presentation comes against a backdrop of fiscal scrutiny, with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu emphasising that the 2026 budget will prioritise the health and education sectors.
