The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has called on individuals applying for membership in the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMC) to clear their criminal records without delay.
In an announcement, the DJA stated that it is working with the courts to process record-clearance requests as quickly as possible. However, it noted that the process is dependent on an automated central database, which has not yet been fully updated with records from all courts across the country.
The DJA further warned that applicants who submit requests to clear records after 1:00 p.m. on the 2nd of this month may not have their information updated in time to meet the deadline set by the Elections Commission.
Of the seven members of the MMC, three will be chosen by the People’s Majlis, while the remaining four will be elected through a vote among media representatives. The Elections Commission has begun the process to elect two members representing broadcasters and two representing other media organizations. Applications for these positions must be submitted by 12:00 noon on the 4th of next month at the EC’s office, located on the fifth floor of the Port Complex.
