Police Investigate Vandalism and Arson Attempt at Magoodhoo Airport Site

Police have launched an investigation into an incident of vandalism and an attempted arson at the airport under development in F. Magoodhoo.
According to authorities, the matter was reported at 7:47 AM today by the MTC Magoodhoo site team. The incident, which occurred last night, involved damage to glass windows at the airport’s fire building and apparent attempts to set the structure on fire.
The Magoodhoo Airport project is one of the largest domestic airport developments in the Maldives, with an estimated cost of MVR 252 million. Designed to feature an 1,800-meter runway, the airport is also planned to accommodate private jet aircraft.
Police stated that their initial investigations indicate deliberate acts of property damage and an effort to ignite a fire at the construction site. Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
