The Maldives Police Service has announced the disposal of 568 unclaimed towed land vehicles as part of ongoing efforts to make streets safer and more walkable.
According to police, the disposed vehicles include 524 two-wheelers and 44 four-wheelers. Owners are given a specific timeframe to reclaim towed vehicles. Those left unclaimed after the deadline are legally disposed of.
The towing and disposal initiative is part of a broader joint effort by the Transport Ministry, Housing Development Corporation (HDC), and the Maldives Police Service. The program, which began last year, targets vehicles parked for extended periods and those that contribute to urban congestion.
In addition to vehicle disposal, police continue to actively remove illegally parked vehicles from public areas.
Authorities state that the program’s primary goals are to improve walkability, enhance public safety, and support the development of a more efficient public transport system in the Greater Malé Region.
