A Nepali national arrested over a fight that broke out at a café in Hulhumalé last night has been ordered to be detained for seven days by the Criminal Court.
According to police, the altercation involved a Nepali and a Bangladeshi national, during which the Bangladeshi man sustained injuries. Authorities have yet to disclose what led to the fight.
The suspect was presented before the Criminal Court earlier today, where the judge ordered his remand for a period of seven days as investigations continue.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over violent disputes among expatriate workers in the Maldives. Public calls are intensifying for stronger preventive measures and better oversight of migrant welfare and labor conditions.
