President Muizzu Breaks Ground on New Hulhumalé Mosque with Research Library

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Wednesday officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for a new mosque in Hulhumalé, which will include a dedicated research library for Islamic scholars and students. The ceremony was attended by First Lady Saajidhaa Mohamed and cabinet members.
The mosque is being developed with the generous contribution of Sheikh Ismail Mohamed and is managed by Medina Investment. It will be built on the site of the current makeshift mosque in Hulhumalé. The two-storey structure will be solar-powered and designed to accommodate approximately 2,000 worshippers, making it one of the largest mosques in the reclaimed suburb.
Notably, the mosque will be the first in Hulhumalé to feature a research library, providing valuable resources for Islamic scholars and students. Dedicated to Aisha (RA), the wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the mosque is expected to be completed and opened to the public by Ramadan 2026.
