\President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with Secretary-General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD), Sheikh Yusuf Hassan Khalawi, on Wednesday to discuss strengthening cooperation in Islamic economic development and related sectors.
The meeting was held at the President’s Office on Wednesday morning during Sheikh Yusuf’s courtesy call on President Muizzu.
According to the President’s Office, the discussions focused primarily on strengthening cooperation between the Maldives and the ICCD to further develop the Islamic economy. The two sides also highlighted the importance of human resource development and increasing economic investment.
They also exchanged views on expanding cooperation in the hospitality and halal business sectors, as well as on opportunities to develop halal tourism in the Maldives.
During the meeting, Sheikh Yusuf Hassan Khalawi presented President Muizzu with a copy of the Holy Quran handwritten in a special calligraphic style.
The ICCD Secretary-General’s visit comes as the Maldives seeks to expand opportunities related to Islamic finance, halal business and tourism. Sheikh Yusuf Hassan Khalawi is the Secretary-General of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development, also known as ICCD.
