Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has been handed over the development and operation of a commercial port in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, marking a significant step towards strengthening the country's logistics infrastructure.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, and MPL’s CEO, DCP (Retired) Mohamed Rishwan.
Speaking about the project, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu highlighted that while discussions about a commercial port in Kudahuvadhoo had existed for years, no previous government had taken concrete steps to make it a reality.
"Looking at the area where Kudahuvadhoo is located, the port project is very important. With the signing of this project, we will complete the commercial port work within this term and make it a reality," President Muizzu stated.
MPL stated that the Kudahuvadhoo commercial port will focus on port-to-port logistics and serve as a distribution hub, contributing to regional economic development. The port will also offer a range of port services, further enhancing the island's economic potential.
