The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a weather advisory, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across most parts of the country until Wednesday.
Key Weather Updates:
Rainfall: Light to moderate rainfall is expected in the central and northern atolls, with southern regions also experiencing showers due to the weather system known locally as keri.
Winds & Sea Conditions: Wind speeds will range between 8-18 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 30 km/h in the south-central atolls. Seas are expected to be rough, with wave heights fluctuating between 2-5 feet.
Heaviest Rainfall: The highest rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded in Goidhoo, Baa Atoll, with 43.4 mm of rain.
The MET office attributes this weather pattern to a circulation and an associated trough impacting the eastern Maldives. Travelers, particularly those at sea, are advised to exercise caution.
