EPA Reiterates Ban on Ray Feeding, Citing Environmental and Safety Risks

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a reminder against ray feeding, warning that the practice remains prohibited under the Protected Species Regulations.
In a statement, the EPA highlighted growing concerns over increased ray feeding across the Maldives, emphasizing that it disrupts natural behaviors and poses ecological risks. The agency also warned that feeding sites attract sharks, heightening the risk of shark bites, while rays' defensive barbs pose additional safety hazards.
The EPA further noted that several tourists have raised complaints regarding ray and shark feeding practices, citing safety concerns. Urging strict compliance, the agency called on individuals and businesses to refrain from the activity to protect marine ecosystems and ensure public safety.
