Maldives Welcomes Over 32,000 Tourists in First Five Days of 2025

The Maldives’ tourism industry has begun 2025 on a strong note, recording 32,349 tourist arrivals in the first five days of the year. This represents a 17.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 27,544 tourists visited.
The Ministry of Tourism’s statistics reveal an average daily arrival rate of 6,470 tourists. Russia leads the source markets with 6,485 arrivals, followed by Italy (5,285), the United Kingdom (2,175), Germany (2,002), and India (1,127). Resorts continue to dominate the sector, hosting 70% of visitors, while guesthouses accounted for 23.3% of stays.
The strong start follows a record-breaking year in 2024, during which the Maldives welcomed over two million tourists for the first time in its 52-year tourism history. A total of 2,047,435 visitors marked a 9% increase from 2023’s 1,878,543 arrivals.
Building on this momentum, the government has set ambitious targets for 2025, aiming to increase arrivals by 15% and boost tourism revenue to MVR 77 billion (approximately USD 5 billion). Initiatives to enhance occupancy rates and diversify source markets are at the forefront of these efforts.
As the Maldives strengthens its position as a top global travel destination, early trends suggest another promising year for the nation’s key economic driver.
