Muhammad Fazeel Rasheed has been suspended today from his position as Deputy Managing Director of MWSC in connection with an illegal land plot issue and alleged document forgery.
According to information received, the decision to suspend him was made by the company's board. MWSC stated that Fazeel was suspended from all responsibilities and barred from coming to the office to allow for the police investigation.
Fazeel had applied for permission to build a boundary wall with a registration claiming he had been allocated a plot, despite not being previously included in the list of those eligible for land in Hulhumale and being deemed ineligible. He is suspected of forging documents to do this.
Police have initiated a criminal investigation into this matter. The Privatization Board has also decided to suspend HDC MD Fazul and board members today.
It is unclear whether HDC granted permission to build on the plot after Housing had informed that it did not belong to anyone.
Documents leaked on social media show that a plot in Hulhumale Phase 2 was given to two people, and both applied to HDC to build boundary walls.
Information suggests that HDC's Deputy Director Ahmed Aiman signed and sent a letter to the Housing Ministry in July to confirm who actually received the land.
The letter, which has been leaked, reveals that one of those claiming the plot is Fazul's brother. In response, State Minister Ibrahim Nizam of the Housing Ministry sent a letter on August 15 stating that neither of the two individuals were allocated land under "Binveriyaa" scheme according to the ministry's database.
