Stalled Water & Sewerage Projects to be Completed This Year: Matheen

All the water and sewerage projects started by the previous government in various islands will be completed within this year, Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed said.
The last government had initiated water and sewerage projects in 20 islands to state-owned enterprises on a pay-as-you-go basis. However, even when the government changed, most of these projects had no practical work carried out yet, and some of the projects were stalled.
Speaking on state media Public Service Media (PSM), Matheen said the water and sewerage works of the 20 islands have been resumed within the past four months, since the change of government.
Most of the islands will see their water and sewerage works completed by the middle of this year, with some projects to be finished by September, he said.
“Therefore, all the water and sewerage projects currently being implemented by the MWSC will be completed this year,” Mathew said.
He added that the previous government had not paid the contractors and suppliers who had provided services or goods for the awarded projects. He said the MWSC's top priority was to pay the outstanding amount to the contractors.
