During his official visit to South Ari Atoll, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with the councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs) of Dhihdhoo, Fenfushi, and Dhan’gethi islands to discuss key development concerns and challenges.
In his meeting with the Dhihdhoo Island Council and WDC, council members highlighted concerns regarding the implementation of the harbour and channel breakwater projects, as well as the ongoing issue of coastal erosion. They also raised concerns about the state of education on the island and provided feedback on ongoing projects. President Muizzu assured the council that he would review these matters and work towards finding sustainable solutions. Cabinet Ministers accompanying the President provided updates on the development projects currently underway in Dhihdhoo.
During his discussion with the Fenfushi Island Council and WDC, the President addressed concerns related to docking difficulties and the lack of a dedicated facility for preparing the deceased. The council also requested the development of an additional volleyball court and the completion of the water and sewerage project. Cabinet Ministers briefed the council on ongoing development projects in Fenfushi, and President Muizzu assured them that the concerns would be prioritized based on their urgency and importance.
At the meeting with the Dhan’gethi Island Council and WDC, members raised several concerns, including the need for a harbour extension project and a land reclamation initiative to provide housing for the youth. They also requested the construction of a multi-purpose hall for the school, the installation of a USD ATM, and solutions for space constraints at the Council Secretariat. The President announced plans to establish a cultural centre on the island and pledged to consider the possibility of providing a USD ATM, along with addressing other issues raised. Cabinet Ministers provided updates on development projects planned for Dhan’gethi.
President Muizzu emphasized his administration’s commitment to addressing the unique challenges faced by each island. Through active engagement with the councils and WDCs, the government aims to implement practical, community-focused solutions that support the well-being and development of residents across the Maldives.
