MTCC to Acquire 56 Vessels for Nationwide Expansion of RTL Ferry Services in 2025

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced plans to purchase 56 additional vessels, valued at MVR 508 million, as part of its efforts to expand the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry services across the Maldives by 2025.
During an appearance on MMTV's Bodu Khabaru programme, MTCC's Managing Director Ahmed Saudee revealed the Government's commitment to extending the RTL ferry network to all atolls by next year. Currently, RTL ferry services are operational in all islands across nine atolls, but challenges such as a shortage of backup vessels, adverse weather conditions, and frequent repairs have occasionally disrupted operations.
The acquisition of new vessels aims to address these challenges, ensuring reliable and efficient ferry services throughout the nation.
In addition to the expansion of ferry services, MTCC is gearing up to launch new bus routes connecting Malé, Villimalé, and Gulhifalhu following the completion of the Malé-Thilamalé Bridge project. This initiative aligns with MTCC's ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity within the Maldives, where the company already operates bus services in all major cities.
The planned enhancements to MTCC's transport services underscore the company's role in bolstering the country's public transport infrastructure and improving accessibility for communities across the Maldives.
