On International Anti-Corruption Day, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu called for decisive actions to address corruption in the Maldives, urging citizens to reject practices that enable misconduct and to actively resist corrupt proposals. In a statement shared via social media, the President emphasized the need for tangible measures, stating that fighting corruption requires more than verbal commitments.
In alignment with these efforts, the Maldives signed an Exchange of Notes with Japan for a project aimed at strengthening the country's anti-corruption capabilities. The initiative will enhance mobility and operational capacity to support anti-corruption operations. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel highlighted the project's role in fostering transparent governance and implementing robust anti-corruption measures.
International Anti-Corruption Day, observed annually on December 9, aims to raise awareness about the importance of integrity and accountability in governance.
