Virgin Atlantic has officially become the 12th airline partner in the Maldives' sea-to-air cargo transshipment operations, marking a significant milestone in the nation's logistics capabilities. The airline recently completed its inaugural uplift of sea-to-air cargo from Velana International Airport (MLE) in the Maldives, bound for the United States, further enhancing global connectivity for Maldivian exports.
In just eight months since launching this innovative sea-to-air service, the Maldives has successfully handled over 1,000 tonnes of cargo, illustrating the rapid growth and success of the initiative. This achievement highlights the Maldives’ evolving role in global cargo logistics and its commitment to increasing its sea-to-air transport capacity.
