The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), in collaboration with Parley Maldives, successfully concluded two major events in Addu City and Fuvahmulah City as part of the Reethi Raajje - ެރީތި ރާއްޖ campaign, focusing on environmental sustainability and cultural preservation. Held in late November 2024, the events brought together communities, schools, and local organizations in a collective effort to promote eco-consciousness and foster intergenerational learning.
The Addu City event, which took place on November 24 at Addu Nature Park, was a platform for students, youth volunteers, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) such as Project Thimaaveshi and Veshisaafu to engage in various activities. Highlights of the event included environmental education workshops, microplastic collection drives, ocean-themed trivia games, and discussions on local initiatives like tree replanting and community cleanups. The following day, November 25, saw a successful community cleanup in the Funa Vavu area, with strong participation from Veshisaafu volunteers and local residents.
In Fuvahmulah, the event held on November 27 at the Youth Centre also focused on environmental education, attracting school students, City Council volunteers, and NGOs like Women in Fuvahmulah (WIF) and Miyaru.org. Participants engaged in hands-on activities that raised awareness about marine conservation and celebrated the city’s unique ecological and cultural landmarks, including Gan Miskiyy and Thundi Beach.
Both events highlighted the Reethi Raajje campaign's mission to inspire environmental stewardship and cultural preservation, leveraging community-driven action to strengthen the Maldives' commitment to a sustainable future. The next destination for the campaign will be Laamu Atoll, continuing its nationwide journey toward environmental and cultural sustainability.
