Bank of Maldives (BML) has introduced the country’s first Shari’ah-compliant Visa credit card, further strengthening its position in the Islamic banking sector.
The BML Islamic Visa Credit Card operates on the principle of Ujrah, where a fee is charged for services rendered. Available in Classic, Gold, Platinum, and Signature tiers, the card is designed for both local and international transactions, offering advanced security and acceptance at millions of merchants worldwide.
In addition, cardholders can join the BML Rewards program to earn points on purchases, redeemable for flights, car rentals, hotel bookings, or vouchers from local and international merchants.
Hassan Kalaam, Director of Islamic Banking at BML, remarked, “As part of our commitment to enhancing the Islamic banking experience, we are delighted to add Visa to our Shari’ah-compliant credit card portfolio. By combining the global reach of Visa with our Islamic banking principles, we aim to provide a unique and secure option for customers who seek ethical banking solutions.”
This launch follows BML’s earlier introduction of the Maldives' first-ever Shari’ah-compliant credit card, reinforcing its pioneering role in the local banking sector.
