President of the Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, addressed the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, issuing a resounding call for unity among Muslim and Arab nations to support Palestine. Urging collective action, he warned, "If we, as an Ummah, don’t act decisively now, history will judge us harshly," underscoring the urgency of a unified stance to address the Palestinian cause.
In his speech, President Muizzu commended Saudi Arabia’s enduring leadership in tackling global challenges impacting the Muslim community, particularly its commitment to forming a Global Alliance for a Two-State Solution. He acknowledged Saudi Arabia's role as a beacon of hope and justice, emphasizing its efforts to support the Palestinians' right to self-determination.
Dr. Muizzu’s message was clear: the decades-long suffering of Palestinians must end. He demanded an end to "terror and injustice" faced by the Palestinian people and urged for tangible actions, rather than statements, against Israeli aggression. Condemning Israel’s “brutal occupation and ongoing genocide,” he criticized Israel’s decision to dismantle the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which has provided essential support to Palestinian refugees for 75 years. The President called on the international community to sustain support for UNRWA’s humanitarian mission.
President Muizzu further criticized the global inaction, particularly within the UN Security Council, where veto power has hindered meaningful action, enabling war crimes and the continued flow of arms. He called for increased financial and political commitment from the international community to bring peace to the region.
The President concluded his statement with renewed praise for Saudi Arabia’s commitment, lauding the Kingdom’s role in fostering solidarity. He urged Muslim and Arab nations to unite for substantive and lasting change, making the Riyadh summit a turning point in the fight for Palestinian justice and sovereignty.
