A team of Chinese experts have officially begun conducting a detailed road survey and feasibility study for a Chinese government-funded road development initiative in Malé and Villimalé. The survey work, which started on November 5, is being jointly undertaken by the Chinese delegation and the Maldives Ministry of Construction to support the design and planning phases of the project.
According to officials, the study will provide essential data on the current conditions and logistical challenges in both Malé and Villimalé, as well as inform stakeholder consultations and design specifications. The study period, set to continue until November 21, 2024, will also include data collection and site assessments.
The project underscores growing Maldives-China cooperation on infrastructure development, with China having funded a series of major projects in the Maldives, including the Sinamalé Bridge, which significantly improved connectivity within the archipelago. A key focus of the current project is not only to improve transportation networks but also to address urban planning challenges in rapidly growing areas like Malé.
