Keys Handed Over to 399 Beneficiaries in FDC Gedhoruviya Flats

Keys to apartments have been distributed to 399 beneficiaries as part of the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC)'s 4,000-flat housing project under the Gedhoruviya Scheme, with handovers beginning on 28 September 2025.
Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib announced the milestone while addressing the media, stating that flat agreements have been signed with 3,879 beneficiaries to date. He expressed confidence that all remaining keys will be handed over by January as contractors complete final works.
The Minister acknowledged initial delays due to water and electricity connections not being included in original agreements, but highlighted measures taken by the government to expedite progress. "When this administration assumed office, only 33 per cent of the project was complete. In two years, progress has reached 68 per cent, with utilities connected, landscaping finished, and handovers now actively underway," he said.
Keys are issued following the signing of agreements and payment of the required deposit, with flats delivered only after all finishing works are fully completed. The government has also introduced subsidies for tenants maintaining regular rent payments.
In response to beneficiary requests, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu approved revised rates: three-bedroom apartments now require an advance payment of MVR 8,500 and monthly rent of MVR 10,000, while two-bedroom units have an advance of MVR 6,000 and monthly rent of MVR 7,000.
Beneficiaries who paid higher advances under previous rates will have the excess credited toward future monthly rents.
