Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has inaugurated Health Expo 2024, a two-day event organized by the Ministry of Health to raise public awareness about healthcare advancements and promote healthy lifestyles across the Maldives. During the opening ceremony, the Vice President launched Hafuthaa 52, a publication detailing key health sector initiatives completed during the first year of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.
The expo hosts 50 stalls with participation from major hospitals, clinics, and civil society organizations across the greater Malé region, offering visitors insights into healthcare services, preventive measures, and wellness programs. Aimed at the wider community, including international residents, the event also focuses on child health topics, such as nutrition, vaccination, and growth milestones.
Health Minister Dr. Abdulla Nazim emphasized the government’s intent to make the Health Expo an annual event, aligning with President Muizzu’s policies for sustainable development. He highlighted several strategic healthcare reforms, such as the new Food Safety Act and enhancements to the Aasandha national insurance system to include preventive healthcare services.
Dr. Nazim also outlined efforts to expand health services in urban centers, reducing the need for travel to Malé City for treatment, and underscored that upcoming Aasandha reforms will improve efficiency and broaden coverage without burdening citizens.
