Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla Attends 149th IPU Assembly in Geneva

Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla leads a Maldivian delegation to the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Geneva, focused on science, technology, and building a sustainable future.
Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has arrived in Geneva to participate in the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which commenced today and will run until October 17. The Speaker is accompanied by a delegation of Maldivian parliamentarians, including Maafannu Central MP Asma Rasheed, Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid, Villimale' MP Mohamed Ismail, Fuvahmulah Central MP Ali Fazad, and Kanditheemu MP Amin Faisal.
The assembly, which brings together representatives from 157 countries, is centered around the theme of utilizing science, technology, and innovation to create a peaceful and sustainable future. Discussions are expected to cover a wide range of topics, including legislative reform and expanding the terms of parliamentary members.
The IPU, founded in 1889, plays a significant role in strengthening the international parliamentary community, promoting democracy, and supporting parliamentary activities. Its assemblies provide a platform for member countries to engage in dialogue on pressing global issues, with a particular focus on governance and sustainability.
