Minister of Housing Dr. Haidhar Ahmed revealed during a press conference that he will embark on a nationwide tour to seek input from Maldivians regarding the upcoming National Development Master Plan. This initiative, spearheaded by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, aims to map out the country’s growth over the next two decades.
Minister Haidhar emphasized that the plan will address critical issues, including the sustainable use and conservation of natural resources, the nation's workforce, and the living conditions of citizens. “We need to understand the direction the people want the country to head in the next 20 years. The participation of all citizens is essential for formulating this plan,” Dr. Haidhar said.
In addition to focusing on resource management, the development plan will reflect the voices of local communities. Dr. Haidhar intends to visit rural areas and engage with citizens through interviews, ensuring that the plan aligns with their needs and aspirations.
President Muizzu, who first proposed the master plan during his presidential campaign, underscored its significance as a key national policy goal. On September 17, he directed the Cabinet to initiate the plan's drafting, stressing the importance of broad public engagement.
President Muizzu also stated that the master plan should reflect the collective vision of the people, reaffirming his commitment to fulfilling his election pledge. "This work must be done with the full participation of all stakeholders," he said, emphasizing that the plan’s success depends on input from citizens across all islands.
