Election Commission Introduces Online Nominations for Political Party Resignations

The Maldives' Election Commission (EC) has announced that political party members will now be able to submit their resignations online through the official website, my.elections.gov.mv. This move, effective from tomorrow, is part of the Commission's efforts to modernize and simplify the resignation process for registered political party members.
Under the ninth amendment to the Political Parties Rules, a member who submits a resignation request will have their name removed from the party within 14 days. If the party fails to comply within this period, the individual can file a complaint through the Commission’s procedure. Previously, members had to submit a separate application to the EC to officially leave a party.
Additionally, the amendment allows for immediate removal of a member from their previous party if they transfer to another political organization without the original party's knowledge.
This online system follows the Election Commission's regulatory updates introduced last week to make it easier for individuals to leave political parties and manage party membership changes. The new digital platform is expected to bring greater convenience and transparency to the party resignation process.
