President Muizzu Calls for Global Courage to End Gaza Genocide at UN Summit

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on the international community to summon the courage necessary to end the ongoing genocide in Gaza, during his address at the opening ceremony of the 'Summit of the Future.' Speaking at the summit, which precedes the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the President emphasized the aspirations of future generations for a world capable of addressing such grave injustices.
Dr. Muizzu expressed frustration with the frequent lack of implementation of critical UN resolutions and agreements, despite years of effort by member states. "Documents and declarations come together at the General Assembly, yet they often remain unimplemented," he said. He underlined the importance of creating a system that responds to the challenges of the future, one where leaders act decisively.
He highlighted the ongoing crisis in Gaza, calling for a multilateral system with the resolve to bring an end to what he described as genocide. "What is needed is a world where we have the courage to face every challenge, including the atrocities in Gaza," the President urged.
The President flew to New York on Friday with a high-level delegation to participate in the General Assembly. In addition to attending the summit, Dr. Muizzu is expected to chair key sessions, attend side activities, and engage in both bilateral and multilateral consultations with world leaders.
This marks Dr. Muizzu’s first time attending the United Nations General Assembly as President. His three-day visit is set to conclude on May 29, when he will return to the Maldives following a series of high-level engagements aimed at promoting multilateral cooperation and addressing global challenges.
