Parliament Approves Ismail Habeeb as New Human Rights Commission Member

The Human Rights Committee of the Maldivian Parliament has formally approved the appointment of Ismail Habeeb as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM). This decision follows a comprehensive interview and evaluation process.
President Muizzu had nominated Habeeb to fill the vacant position within the HRCM. The Human Rights Committee conducted an interview with Habeeb on Monday, during which the members assessed his qualifications and experience. The committee then voted on the report from the interview session.
In the evaluation process, the committee members graded the nominees based on criteria established by the General Committee. Habeeb achieved an average score exceeding 75 percent, reflecting his suitability for the role. Consequently, the committee proceeded to vote on his appointment, with the majority of members present endorsing his nomination.
Habeeb brings significant experience to the HRCM, having dedicated 21 years to the Election Commission, including a decade as a member. His extensive background in electoral processes and governance is expected to contribute positively to the Human Rights Commission's mandate.
The appointment of Ismail Habeeb marks a significant step in strengthening the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, ensuring that the body continues to uphold and protect human rights within the nation.
