President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu has announced the allocation of MVR 25 million from the state budget starting next year to promote the arts sector in the Maldives.
Speaking at the "Unveiling Vision 2024" exhibition at the Art Gallery, the President addressed the attendees, highlighting the government's commitment to fostering artistic growth.
From next year, the government will provide financial assistance to individuals aspiring to learn the art of art. Additionally, a separate budget will be designated for the procurement of materials and other activities for artists.
"Starting next year, MVR 25 million will be allocated as grants to the industry from the budget of the Ministry of Youth," stated President Muizzu.
The President also announced that the Cabinet has decided to allocate space in Hulhumale for artists to display their work.
Furthermore, the government will support artists in pursuing their work as a career and earning an income. President Muizzu assured that the government will promote Maldivian artists' work within the tourism industry and on various international platforms.
The government's Creative Economy Manifesto will also facilitate the sale of artists' works online. "If successful, it will be possible to sell paintings globally and earn an income," said the President.
The seventh edition of the Unveiling Vision exhibition was held recently, featuring the works of over 200 applicants, with 105 pieces displayed.
