The Maldives Police Service has filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against Zifleena Hassan, wife of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) President Abdulla Shahid, over the purchase of an apartment in Hulhumale' for RF 3.5 million.
The ACC has been requested to investigate the purchase of a 1,200-square-foot flat at FW Residence in Hulhumale by Zifleena following a complaint filed by a public figure. The investigation comes amid allegations and suspicions regarding the legality and sources of funding for the property.
In an attempt to manage the fallout, Zifleena is reportedly making significant efforts to cover up the issue. An online newspaper, rumored to be operated by her husband Abdulla Shahid, has downplayed and obscured the story. Additionally, false accusations have been directed at President Muizzu's sister and Nilandhoo MP, Sauda.
Compounding the controversy, Zifleena claimed to have been living in the apartment for four years. However, records indicate that the FW Residence apartments have not been available for occupation for that duration, casting further doubt on her statements.
The ACC's investigation is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the purchase and clarify any potential violations of law.
