Maldives Commences Blocking of Gambling Websites

The Maldives has begun blocking gambling websites in a move to curb the rising trend of online betting and gambling among its citizens. The Communications Authority of Maldives (CAM) has already blocked one of the four betting sites identified by the police.
Police officials submitted a request to CAM to restrict access to these sites, citing concerns over the increasing prevalence of online gambling. The activity has become widespread, with many residents using various websites to place bets and win money. Links to these gambling sites are commonly shared on social media platforms and Telegram groups.
The growing popularity of online gambling in the Maldives has led to significant debt among some individuals. In response, some banks have also taken measures to block transactions related to gambling websites.
This initiative marks a crucial step by Maldivian authorities to address the social and economic issues associated with online gambling, aiming to protect citizens from the adverse effects of gambling addiction and financial instability.
