Minister Shiyam Meets with Italian Senate Vice-President to Discuss Fisheries and Trade

Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam held a significant meeting with Gian Marco Centinaio, Vice-President of the Italian Senate, to discuss the political and trade relations between the Maldives and Italy.

During the meeting, Minister Shiyam emphasized the strong bilateral ties and the potential for further collaboration in various sectors. He specifically highlighted the investment opportunities within the Maldivian fisheries sector, including fishing marinas, mariculture, and the diversification of marine resources. These opportunities, he noted, are pivotal for enhancing the economic cooperation between the two nations.

Furthermore, Minister Shiyam briefed Vice-President Centinaio on the ongoing efforts by the European Union to reduce tariffs on fisheries products, which could significantly benefit Maldivian exports. The reduction of duties is expected to boost the competitiveness of Maldivian fisheries in the European market, fostering greater trade and economic growth.
