Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Adam Shamil has identified challenges in obtaining documents from relevant authorities as the primary reason for delays in case investigations.
In a recent interview with state media, Chairman Shamil emphasized that the majority of evidence required for these cases is documentary. The process of acquiring these documents is fraught with difficulties, significantly impeding the commission's progress.
"Maintaining old documents in various institutions in Maldives is poorly managed, and changes in administrative management further complicate document retrieval," Shamil explained.
To address this issue, the ACC is actively working on implementing a technology-friendly system to streamline document management and retrieval processes.
According to the ACC's report from last year, there are a total of 999 pending cases, including those carried over from previous years. Chairman Shamil stressed that finding a solution to the document retrieval problem is critical for reducing this backlog and improving the efficiency of the commission's investigations.
