Government of Maldives Condemns Israeli Bombing of Palestinian Tents in Rafah

The Government of Maldives issued a vehement condemnation today against the recent Israeli military aggression targeting unarmed civilians in the Gaza Strip. The condemnation follows the Israeli bombing of tents in Rafah City, which were providing shelter to hundreds of displaced Palestinians.
In an official statement, the Maldivian government expressed its strongest denouncement of such actions, labeling them as deliberate aggression and genocidal acts against civilians. The government underscored that these actions flagrantly violate international humanitarian law and urged Israel to immediately cease its offensive in Rafah.
This statement comes in the wake of an emergency ruling by the International Court of Justice on May 24, 2024, which called upon Israel to halt its offensive in Rafah. The Government of Maldives reiterated the significance of this ruling and emphasized Israel's obligation to comply with previous decisions of the Court aimed at preventing civilian casualties and acts of genocide in Gaza.
"The Government and the people of the Maldives remain in firm solidarity with the people of Palestine," stated the official release. It further reiterated the country's unwavering support for Palestine's legitimate right to statehood. The Government of Maldives reaffirmed its commitment to the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem designated as its capital.
This strong stance by the Maldivian government highlights its commitment to international justice and the protection of human rights, particularly in conflict zones such as Gaza. As tensions persist in the region, calls for restraint and respect for humanitarian law grow louder from the international community.
The Government of Maldives' condemnation serves as a reminder of the urgent need for peaceful resolution and the respect for the rights and dignity of all individuals affected by conflict in the Gaza Strip.
