The Maldives Parliament has passed a legislative amendment to ban the entry of Israeli passport holders, in a unanimous vote that underscores the country’s stance against Israel’s ongoing military actions in Palestine.
The amendment to the Immigration Act was approved on Sunday with the support of all 83 members present. It was initially proposed by Galolhu South MP Mickail Naseem, and later amended by the Parliament's Committee on National Security Services to specify that the ban will remain in effect until Israel halts its inhumane acts against Palestinians that began on October 7, 2023.
The move reflects the Maldives’ historic solidarity with the Palestinian cause and comes amid growing global condemnation of Israel's continued bombardment of Gaza and other Palestinian territories.
