Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that flight schedules may be subject to change due to prevailing weather conditions. The company has advised passengers to verify their flight timings before heading to the airport, as heavy rains currently affecting the Maldives could result in alterations to the schedule.
MACL emphasized that passenger safety is paramount, and some flights may be cancelled if conditions are deemed unsafe for travel. The statement comes amid an ongoing period of inclement weather, attributed to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) issued an orange alert this morning, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the central atolls, accompanied by wind speeds between 34 to 40 miles per hour and gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour. The Met Office has also warned that the northern and central regions of the country are expected to experience adverse weather for the next three days.
Passengers are urged to stay informed about the latest weather updates and to check with their airlines for any changes to flight schedules.
