The United Nations Security Council has passed a resolution calling on Israel to immediately stop its assault on Palestinians in Gaza.
All 15 UN Security Council members, except the United States, have supported an immediate ceasefire.
Speaking after the vote, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield condemned Hamas for delaying a ceasefire. However, the United States did not agree to a ceasefire.
Such a resolution was passed nearly six months after the fighting, which analysts say is a crucial step towards a ceasefire.
Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7th have forced 90 percent of Gaza's 2.3 million people to flee to various areas. More than 32,000 people have been killed in the war.
The United Nations and major international aid agencies have repeatedly called for a ceasefire, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ignored them, saying the fighting will not stop until Hamas and other militant groups are eliminated.
