People who are voluntarily completing methadone treatment will be able to complete treatment without having to go to court ordered rehab for a previous problem, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said.
As part of the President's Answers series, where citizens can ask questions directly to the President, Aminath Nathasha said the drug court has sentenced people to rehab for involvement in drugs related cases, while the individuals are already participating in methadone treatment provided by the National Drug Agency. She noted that the people lose their jobs and face many difficulties.
"During this treatment, for example, the person was personally involved in methadone, and for involvement in a previous case, the drug court is sentencing him to go to rehab.”
After explaining the situation, Nathasha asked the President to provide for the law to enable those who have started such treatment to continue their treatment.
Replying to Nathasha's question, the President said that people receiving treatment will be able to complete their treatment without being taken to jail or rehab. The President said he would discuss the matter with the Homeland Security Ministry and relevant agencies.
"I hope to talk to the Ministry of Homeland Security and the relevant authorities about this and make arrangements within the legal framework to ensure that the treatment can be continued," he said.
