Rasmale Work Will Accelerate After Completion of Gulifalhu: Government

Construction and Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abullah Muththalib has said that the dredging work of Rasmale will not stop, but will speed up upon the completion of Gulhifalhu.
The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure held a press conference at the Seneco Hall of the Voice of Maldives yesterday, where the Minister gave updates on the progress of Rasmale to a journalist’s question on the Rasmale project.
“The construction of the bond wall is underway,” the Minister said.
Minister Muththalib said there were agreements with CMC and Boskalis of the Netherlands; Boskalis is using only one dredger to dredge the Gulf and the company intends to use the dredger to dredge the Rasmale once the Gulhifalhu dredging has been finished.
When work had begun on the Gulhifalhu project, no large area had been studied for sand extraction. The work began without the study being done, so as the work continued, the first sand mining area did not contain sufficient sand for the completion of the work.
"At that time, as part of our efforts to start the project as soon as possible, we signed the contract so that we could start the work. The contractor also wanted to carry out the work as cost-effectively as possible.”
The Rasmale project is being carried out without any expenditure from the state budget. The CMC, which is doing the work, will be given 70 hectares of land in the area in exchange for money. A total of 1,153 hectares of land is being dredged by the CMC.
