In a significant step towards improving the climate resilience of housing in the Maldives, Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, alongside Minister of State for Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim, officially launched the Resilience Housing Guidance for the Maldives Handbook. Developed through a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure and the World Bank, this guide has also benefited from input from various stakeholders, including government agencies, the private sector, and the general public.
The Handbook aims to provide essential guidance for building homes that are better equipped to withstand the challenges posed by climate change, such as rising sea levels and extreme weather conditions. During the launch ceremony, Minister Dr. Muththalib emphasized the importance of this initiative in fortifying the Maldives' housing sector against climate-related risks. Additionally, remarks from Senior Housing Specialist of the World Bank, Dao Harrison, and Chief Executive Officer of the Local Government Authority, Mohamed Nimal, highlighted the Handbook's potential to transform the nation’s approach to resilient housing.
The Handbook will be freely accessible online through the Local Government Authority’s website at [https://resilienthousingguidance.lga.gov.mv], allowing for widespread distribution and use across relevant sectors.
