Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has rejected claims that a large number of teachers have left Maldives in connection with the PPM/PNC coalition's "India Out" movement during the build up to the last presidential election.
Responding to a query during questioning in Parliament today, the Minister said that the theory that many teachers had left Maldives because of the India Out Movement was categorically false.
The question was asked by the opposition MDP MP Mohamed Shahid, who claimed that a large number of teachers have left the country in connection with the India Out movement.
The Minister said that, although some politicians have made statements indicating that there is a shortage of teachers in the country, going as far as to say there is a “crisis,” there is no need for concern as this information is false.
The Minister noted that some teachers from abroad want to leave because they are unhappy with the island where they are going to teach. However, the minister said that the claim that many teachers suddenly want to leave Maldives, or that there is a shortage of teachers in the country is not a well-informed claim.
