The helicopters meant for transporting patients will be made operational this year, according to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
President Dr. Muizzu said this while speaking at the launch of the MNDF Drone program in the country on friday during a ceremony held at Maafaru International Airport.
He stated that the helicopter service would be resumed before the end of this year. The President, Dr. Muizzu said a helicopter will be used for medical evacuation.
Dr. Muizzu stated that the helicopter service would be resumed before the end of this year. These helicopters, up to now operated by Indian military personnel, were used for medical evacuations throughout Maldives.
He added that he would seek any assistance needed for the development of Maldives. However, in doing such important things, it is crucial to empower your own country more than other countries.
With that, the President said, three aircraft will be used for health purposes in Maldives. They include a helicopter, a Dash 8 aircraft and a sea plane, he said.
In the past, Maldivians had to rely on neighboring India to transport patients in emergencies. However, since the coming of this government, the President has started working to reduce the dependence of the people on India, and develop his own country to the point where such things can be done without relying on foreign countries.
Accordingly, besides introducing an aircraft and a sea plane into the air ambulance service, the government has ordered Indian military personnel – stationed in the country to operate three aircraft - to withdraw from Maldives.
