Maldives’ Ambassador to the United Nations Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed called on the United Nations General Assembly to ban arms sales to Israel immediately.
The United States has vetoed many UN Security Council resolutions against Israel. The veto of the resolutions resulted in a lack of adequate action by the international community against Israel to stop the war.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly meeting on the use of the veto, Dr. Naseer said the act of vetoing the UN Security Council vote on the 20th of February allowed Israel to continue its atrocities without accountability.
The veto also led to the killing of 100 Palestinian civilians and hundreds more being injured in Israeli attacks on February 29th, he said.
The statement noted that the Palestinian civilians killed by Israel on that day and since were deprived of water, food and other necessities.
He also called on the UN Security Council to take immediate action to stop Israel's genocide in Palestine.
On behalf of Maldives, Dr. Naseer called on the Security Council and the international community to go beyond rhetoric, take firm measures to stop Israeli actions, and hold Israel accountable for its war crimes against the Palestinian people.
