Government Has Begun to Pay Debts from Stalled Projects of Previous Administration: President

The previous government owed a lot of money to various companies as a result of projects being started without budgeting for them properly, however the money is being paid by this government, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said.
President Dr. Muizzu said this while addressing a meeting with the people of B. Kendhoo. He stated that the Maldivian government is working to improve the economy and implement projects in rural areas.
He said that many of the projects that have already been started in some islands, but were stalled due to the previous governments mismanagement of funds, have been resumed.
He elaborated that the work resumed when the government started paying the companies from the debts incurred by the previous administration. The President said the entire government owes 9 billion MVR to the people and companies from state-owned enterprises and ministries.
The government is working to overcome this situation, he said, adding that the government is confident that it will be able to complete the existing work at a fast pace. Moreover, this government is working to boost the economy and build the confidence of investors to do business in the country.
